About Trail Amigo
Trail Amigo is built by an independent Canadian developer in Chestermere, Alberta. Our focus is Canadian trails — Banff, Kananaskis, the Bow Valley, the Coast Mountains, the Laurentians, the East Coast. We rely on Canadian and open data wherever we can: Parks Canada, provincial park trail networks, OpenStreetMap contributors who hiked the route. Made in Canada 🍁
Map data
- OpenStreetMap contributors — base geometry, paths, roads, place names. Used under the Open Database License (ODbL). See openstreetmap.org/copyright.
- MapTiler — basemap styling, vector tile hosting, search. See maptiler.com/copyright.
Trail data
- Parks Canada open data — federal park trail networks.
- Province-of-Alberta open data — Kananaskis Country, provincial parks.
- OpenStreetMap contributors — community-mapped trail geometry where official datasets don't cover.
- trail-data-processor — our open-source pipeline for geometry simplification, naming heuristics, and elevation profiles.
Elevation profiles
[Elevation data source attribution coming soon — pending confirmation of which provider we use in production.]
Weather
- Open-Meteo — current conditions and forecasts. See open-meteo.com.
Photos
- User-contributed photos remain owned by the people who uploaded them.
- Photos shown on the homepage and marketing pages were taken by the developer on Canadian trails. © Trail Amigo.
Software
Built with Go, React, TypeScript, MapLibre GL, Tailwind, and a long list of
open-source libraries. See package.json and go.mod in our repository
for the full set.
Thanks
To every OpenStreetMap volunteer who mapped a trail by walking it with a GPS. This app could not exist without you. 🍁
